Alice Florence Herbert, 93, of Port Charlotte, Florida died Friday, December 1, 2017 at Tidewell Hospice House in Port Charlotte.
Alice was born July 9, 1924 Lake Linden, Michigan to Arthur and Mamie Chaput. She moved to Port Charlotte in 1994 from Howell, Michigan where she and her late husband of 54 years Gerald H. “Jerry” Herbert raised their six children. Alice worked at First National Bank and also the Livingston County Court House in Howell. She was a member of St.Joseph Catholic Church in Howell and a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, Port Charlotte.
Alice is survived by her loving family, five daughters, Geri (Paul) Brayton of Punta Gorda, FL, Jo Ann Morse of Lafayette, CA, Mary (Terry) Downie of Howell, MI, Madonna Borck of Howell, MI and Christine Goff of Lafayette, CA; a son, Thomas Herbert of Port Charlotte; two sisters, Jean Thibodeau and Elaine (Lionel) Freiberg of Port Charlotte: two brothers Donald (Toni) Chaput of Altadena, CA and James Chaput of Port Charlotte; 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Family first was always important for Alice, but so was having fun, she was known for a great sense of humor and always ready for a card game. She is also survived by sister-in-laws Claire Chaput and Dolores Chaput and over 30 nieces and nephews.
Alice was preceded in death by her husband Gerald , in 1998. She was the second eldest of 10 children and was preceded in death by sisters, Agnes and Margaret and brothers Arthur, Francis and Edward and beloved son-in-law, Andrew Morse.
A Memorial Mass will be held at a later date. Private inurnment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens, Port Charlotte.
Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to St. Judes Childrens Hospital or a charity of your choice.
