Anna B. Johnson, 95, of Punta Gorda, FL passed away Monday, April 2, 2012 at Tidewell Hospice, Port Charlotte, FL.
She was born September 2, 1916 to Laura Pearl Sexton and George Williams in Waterproof, Louisiana. Anna was raised by her grandparents, Octavia and Mose Sexton. Anna possessed a welcoming personality and met no strangers. She had a great love for Christ and all people. She accepted Christ early in life and remained faithful to her faith till she was called home. On Nov. 12, 1938, she was blessed with her first child, James. In 1940, she moved to Chicago, where she met and married William Johnson and was blessed with another son Clinton, on September 29, 1942. Anna longed to complete her education and entered Englewood Evening High School and received her diploma in January of 1957. She was employed at the University of Chicago until she retired. While employed there her she enrolled and worked diligently until she received her Bachelor’s of Science from Governors State University in 1974.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory two sisters, Lucinda Rauls of Jackson, TN and Vera Trufant of Covington, GA; three brothers, Mose Williams of New Orleans, LA; George P. Williams of Sacramento, CA and Jerry Williams of Shreveport, LA; three grandchildren, Jemal Johnson, Karmel S. Johnson and Honori A. Johnson, all of Port Charlotte, FL; three great-grandchildren, Shaquala A. Johnson, of Columbia, SC; Raykim Nesbitt of Walterboro, SC and Jaelin R. Johnson of Port Charlotte, FL and a host relatives and friends. Her sons, James E. Williams and Clinton D. Johnson both precede her in death. They are now gloriously reunited in heaven.
A Memorial service will be held 2 P.M. Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at Port Charlotte United Methodist Church, Port Charlotte, FL. Rev. Brian James will officiate.
