Astley G. Griffiths, 86, died September 11, 2021 at his home in Port Charlotte, Florida. Astley was born November 7, 1934 in St. Catherine, Jamaica, West Indies to the late Percival Griffiths and Beatrice Carline Samuels. He grew up in Jamaica and immigrated to the United States to New Jersey in August 1967. He married Ermine Francis in Brooklyn, New York on August 30, 1968 and from this union, two sons were born. Astley worked for Bush Terminal at Industry City as a plumber in Brooklyn for 20 years before retiring and moving the family to Florida. While living in Florida, Astley worked for a few different companies, all still performing plumbing services until his last job with Ace Hardware. Astley was affectionately known by all as “Griff.” He enjoyed spending time with friends, watching WWE every week, gardening and cooking. He was loved by many and definitely will be missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Ermine, of 53 years; his sons Richard (Danielle) and Alrick (Melissa), both of Port Charlotte, FL; his sisters Leith Samuels and Enid Simmons, both of England; a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Memorial Service celebrating Astley’s life will be held Thursday, 3:00 PM, Sept. 23, 2021 at Roberson Funeral Home Port Charlotte Chapel.
