Barbara Theresa Alveranga passed away on Monday, March 23, 2020 in Punta Gorda, Florida.
Barbara was born Barbara Theresa Blanchett on July 21, 1933 to the late James and Ruby Blanchett In Jamaica, West Indies. She graduated from Alfa Academy High School in Kingston, Jamaica, and then moved to Brooklyn, NY in 1952 to join her parents and siblings. She worked at Abraham and Straus (A&S) department store in the billing department for many years before retiring.
In 1956 she married the love of her life, Valin Alveranga. Their union produced two beautiful children, Deborah (deceased) and Valin Michael. In 1990, she and her husband retired and relocated to the Deep Creek section of Punta Gorda. Barbara was a parishioner of San Antonio Roman Catholic Church and worked part time for the YMCA where she enjoyed working with small children.
Barbara was known for her love of fashion and loved to shop. Her unique hobby was collecting Chinese art. She also loved music, dancing, traveling and spending time with her grandkids.
Barbara leaves to cherish her memory her son Valin Michael (Kimberly); 10 grandchildren: Queshema (Darrell), Clifford, Christopher, Valin II, Steven, Sakoya (Jerome), Malcolm (Aja ), Chelsea and Isaiah; 15 great-grandchildren: Quaeshawn, Topaz , Valencia, Trezure, Journee, Nasir, Valin III, Ethan, Marcelus , Naomi, Marley, Clifford Jr., Layla, Ryan and Nola; and 2 great-great grandchildren, Tre and Kali-Rose. She is also survived by her youngest sister, Valerie, and a host of nieces, grand-nieces and grand-nephews, and many other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Valin, her daughter Deborah, her granddaughter Sapha, and her siblings Monica and Barry.
