Continue ReadingBerrien G. (Bob) Hockett, 88, of Port Charlotte, Florida passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at Douglas Jacobson State Veterans Nursing Home in Port Charlotte.
Berrien was born in Oxford, North Carolina but he lived in the Virginia and Maryland area most of his adult life before moving to Florida in 2002. He was a U.S. Army veteran who served proudly with the 147th Engineering Combat Battalion during World War II in the Normandy Invasion, France, Germany and Belgium. Bob was a wonderful man and will be missed by all who loved and knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Rita F. Hockett; a brother, Thomas O. (Tom) Hockett of Cleveland, OH and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Macy, Eula and Dora and brothers, Hencil, Clue and Marvin.
A Memorial Service and Military Honors will be held 10:30AM, Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at Roberson Funeral Home Port Charlotte Chapel. Inurnment will be held at a later date by the family.
