Brian Alan Putman, 52, of Port Charlotte, Fla., died Monday, June 24, 2024, at Tidewell Hospice Care Center at Village on the Isle in Venice, Fla., following a long and courageous cancer battle.
He was a Florida native, born Feb. 19, 1972, in Panama City, Fla., to Bruce and Susan (nee Dempsey) Putman. Brian retired after 22 years as a Charlotte County Sheriff’s deputy, where he was proud to provide fair protection and service to our community. He also served briefly in the U.S. Navy, prior to a medical discharge.
Brian had a wicked sense of humor from an early age, earning a “Class Clown” award in elementary school, to the delight of his peers and occasional frustration from his teachers. A lifelong Trekkie and avid soccer player in his youth, he also picked up musical instruments by ear, and found his rhythm in drumlines at his middle and high schools in Southwest Florida and Metro Atlanta, Ga. He was a hard worker his whole life, putting his physical strength to work as a mover, before pursuing a career in law enforcement, where his mischievous childhood gave him distinctive insight into criminal investigations. Brian’s greatest joy, however, was watching his three children develop into the kind, intelligent and strong young people they are. Brian was of the Christian faith. He walked the talk, fiercely protecting his loved ones and community, while never forgetting the value of lightening up and having a good laugh. He will be remembered fondly by all those whose lives he touched.
He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Susan (nee Adams) of Port Charlotte; his three beloved children, Bradley, Mackenzie “Kenzie” and Andrew, all of Port Charlotte; two sisters, Lisa Dempsey and Marion Putman, both of Port Charlotte; father, Bruce (Marilyn) of Fort Myers, Fla.; and extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother; in-laws, Jim and Loretta Adams; and grandparents.
Visitation will be private. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to a charity of the donor’s choice.
