Calhoun “Cal” H. Young, 75, of Punta Gorda, Florida died Saturday, July 28, 2018 at Promise Hospital, Fort Myers, Florida.

Cal was born in Dallas, Texas and grew up in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and moved to Punta Gorda in 1966. He was a retired lineman for Florida Power & Light Co. and U.S. Navy veteran. Cal was a member of American Legion Post #110 of Port Charlotte, Moose Lodge #2121 of Port Charlotte, and Punta Gorda Elks Lodge #2606.

He was an avid fisherman, hunter, outdoors man, 100-ton Captain, and, a handy man who could fix anything. Cal retired and sold his house and with his wife bought a 43’ Motor Yacht, which they lived aboard and cruised for 8 years. He was a people person who would be a friend to all he encountered. Anyone that met him would remember him, he filled a room with his personality. He will be missed by so many friends and family and his soul mate Micki. He fought a gallant fight for 6 months, but rests now in the loving arms of Jesus.

He is survived by his loving family, his wife of 35 years Mildred G. “Micki” Young of Punta Gorda; a son, Jeffrey Hunter (Diane) Young and daughter, Leah Marcum, both of Punta Gorda; and 4 grandchildren. Cal was preceded in death by his parents Calhoun and Ruth Young, a stepson, J. Randy Gentle and grandson, Kyle Gentle.

Visitation will be held Thursday 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Thursday August 2, 2018 at Roberson Funeral Home Punta Gorda Chapel followed by a Funeral Services at 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Interment will with military honors by a U.S. Navy Honor Guard will be held Friday 9:30 AM, August 3, 2018 at Sarasota National Cemetery, Sarasota, FL.
