Carl E. “Ed” Hart Jr., 85, of Punta Gorda, Florida passed away peacefully in his sleep Friday, July 20, 2018 at home in Deep Creek.

Carl was born July 17, 1933 in Seymour, Iowa to the late Carl Edward Hart and Ida Ione (McCoy) Hart. In his younger years, Carl owned and operated a cabinet shop and raised his family in Frankfort, IL. In the late 1970’s Carl sold the cabinet business to become a well-respected antique dealer specializing in sterling silver. Throughout his 40 years in the antique business, Carl and his wife Barbara traveled throughout the country to buy, sell and repair sterling silver antiques.

In 1990, he and Barbara relocated from Frankfort, IL to Punta Gorda, FL. When not on the road for business the last 28 years, Carl loved being at home in Florida, fishing on the lake in his backyard, shooting pool, playing cards and recently spending time researching his ancestry on the computer. Most of all he enjoyed being with his family and friends, joking and telling stories.

He is survived by his cherished wife of 64 years, Barbara A. Hart of Punta Gorda; two daughters, Cheryl (Robert) Porto of Port Charlotte, FL and Cynthia (Paul) Sering of Dunnellon, FL; sister Bernadine Bettenhausen of Indianapolis, IN; and 3 grandchildren, Jonathan, Emily, and Megan Porto.

Memorial services celebrating Carl’s life will be held Saturday 2:00 PM, August 4, 2018 at Roberson Funeral Home Port Charlotte Chapel, 2151 Tamiami Trail, Port Charlotte, FL 33948.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his honor to the charity of your choosing.

Carl was a very dear friend. We have known and worked with him 18 years. We only got to see him once a month but we always had a great time with him. We give our deepest condolence to Barbara and Family. He will be greatly missed by all of the people who knew him.

So sorry for your loss Barb, he will be missed here at Scotts. He was a positive light and faithful friend.

Please accept my heartfelt condolences on the loss of your husband, father and grandfather. May you find encouraging the words found in the Bible at Revelation 21:4, where God promises us that very soon he will do away with death and sickness from the Earth forever, and he will resurrect Ed to Perfect life here on Earth, surrounded by family and friends, which has always been God's purpose for mankind and for the Earth.

I always adored my Uncle Ed. When I was a small child he taught me how to play checkers. He always new how to make me laugh! He will be missed by many. My deepest condolences go out to my Aunt Barbara, and my cousins Cindy and Cheryl.

Ed was a nice man. I'm sorry I won't be in town to pay my respects but the whole family is in my prayers! Love you guys.
