Catherine M. Spencer, 78, of Port Charlotte, Florida, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2025. Born in Washington D.C., to Catherine and Robert Miller, she lived a life full of love, service, and adventure.
In September 1967, Catherine married Bruce C. Spencer, beginning a partnership that would take them across the country as part of Navy life. Wherever they landed, Catherine brought warmth and grace, she found success in various fields and ultimately retired from the Department of Defense in 1998.
After retirement, Catherine and Bruce settled in their dream home in Port Charlotte, Florida where she became a cherished part of the local community. She generously gave her time as a volunteer at Myakka River Elementary School, the Backpack Kids Foundation, and In Stride Therapy- organizations that reflect her deep compassion, especially for children. Catherine also discovered a passion for rowing and joined the Lemon Bay Crew Club. She found peace and joy on the water, where she felt most connected to nature.
Survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Bruce Spencer; her daughter Cathy Wahlen; son-in-law Jayson Wahlen; and beloved granddaughter Emily Wahlen. She also leaves behind numerous extended family members who will miss her dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents, Catherine and Robert Miller, and her brother, Robert Miller.
The visitation will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Roberson Funeral Home 2151 Tamiami Trail, Port Charlotte, Florida 33948 with the Celebration of Life following at 11:00 a.m.
