Mr.Clayton C. Nelson, age 68, of Punta Gorda, Florida, died Monday, December 14, 2009 in Port Charlotte, Florida.

Born November 20, 1941 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Nels and Jennievieve Nelson, Clayton a veteran of the U.S. Navy and former Vice President in charge of research and development for the former Edward Lowe Industries, was responsible for development of Tidy Cats brand litter now owned by Purina. Clayton moved to Punta Gorda from South Bend, Indiana in 1992 with his wife Dorothy.

He is survived by his beloved wife Dorothy J. Nelson of Punta Gorda, and son Steve (wife Theresa) Nelson of Boston, MA; brother-in-law Ronald (wife Terri) McGee of MN and sister-in-law Melanie (husband Bruce) Baxter of ND.
