Daphne was born in Kingston, Jamaica on June 8, 1929 to the late Josephine (nee – Jackson) and David Black. She immigrated to New York City, becoming a U.S. citizen, and eventually moved to Port Charlotte in 1992. A catholic, she was a longtime member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Port Charlotte.
Dearest mother to Delores Hill (adopted) daughter, others surviving are her sister, Doris Prendergast and brother William Black; loving nieces, nephews and many other family members and friends. Beloved wife of Leonard M. Gowe, Daphne was preceded in death by Leonard in August of 1993.
Viewing for Daphne will be from 6 to 8 p.m. this Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at Roberson Funeral Homes Port Charlotte Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 20, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. Committal and burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens cemetery in Port Charlotte.
Arrangements are by Roberson Funeral Home & Crematory Port Charlotte Chapel.
