David Charles McKalip, 87, of Port Charlotte, Florida died Friday, June 24, 2011 at his residence in Port Charlotte.
David was born April 3, 1924 in Oakmont, Pennsylvania and moved to Port Charlotte in 1992 from Tinley Park, Illinois. He was the retired owner and operator of Rex Television Service Co. Inc. of Chicago, IL. He a veteran of World War II serving in the United States Army Air Corps, 466th Bomber Group, where he flew 30 B-24 combat missions in the European Theater of Operations. David was a member of the Eighth Air Force Historical Society, 466th Bomb Group Association, Second Air Division Assn. Eighth Air Force. In Port Charlotte he was a member of American Legion Post #110,the Italian American Club, Irish American Club and Elks Lodge #2153.
He is survived by his wife, Frances M. McKalip of Port Charlotte, FL; son, Douglas McKalip of Tinley Park, IL; daughter, Sandra (Larry) Dirker of Tinley Park, IL; step-daughter, Donna (Tom) Dietrick of Pittsburgh, PA; two sisters, Jeanette Elliott and June Seabury of Apollo, PA; 4 grandchildren, Adam and Amy Dirker, Ryan and Melissa McKalip; 2 step-grandchildren, Megan and Sarah Dietrick; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held Tuesday 2:00 PM, June 28, 2011 at Roberson Funeral Home Port Charlotte Chapel. Rev. Brian James of the Port Charlotte United Methodist Church will officiate. Memorial services will be held at a later date in Tinley, IL. Inurnment and military honors will follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, Illinois.
