Debra “Debbie” Jo Hasbargen (maiden name Dokken) went to be with the Lord on May 21, 2024. Debbie lived a full and vibrant life, touching many people’s lives along the way. Debbie grew up in Bloomington, Minnesota, the daughter of Donald and Helen Dokken. At the age of eight, complications from a medical procedure altered Debbie’s physical abilities but her Pollyanna outlook and determination enabled her to overcome challenges and not let anything get in her way. Debbie graduated from John F. Kennedy High School in Bloomington, Minnesota, during which time she met the love of her life, Thomas “Tom” Hasbargen, in the high school youth group. He proposed in October 1975 and they married on August 28, 1976 at Oxboro Free Church, a community foundational to their faith. Debbie and Tom began their married life in Bloomington, Minnesota where they adopted their two children Kira and Tristan. The family relocated to Apple Valley, Minnesota before moving to Port Charlotte, Florida in 1998 to start a business. In Florida, Debbie worked for Royal Palm Retirement Center as Activities Coordinator and then Tidewell Hospice, an organization she was deeply committed to support because of her family’s experience with hospice care during the loss of her parents to cancer. While Debbie eventually retired from working outside the home, she volunteered her time at Celebrate Recovery and in the worship team at New Day Christian Church. She founded a local chapter of PEO International and held leadership positions in Chapter IU. Debbie was a caring mother, wife, sister, and friend, always centering on the needs of others. She had a gift for keeping in contact with friends and family across the country, dropping cards in the mail to acknowledge birthdays, anniversaries, and special events. Seeing her four grandsons brought Debbie sheer joy. Fluffy, as they called her, would give them rides on her scooter, shower them with hugs, and tell them stories. Debbie loved watching the sunsets over the Gulf, Wandering Wednesday excursions with her husband and Carl to explore new areas, birdwatching, finding tasty new lunch spots and enthusiastically cheering at family athletic events with her mini cowbell. She was quick to recommend to family and friends that they should relocate to Florida’s sunny, tropical climate. The family expresses their gratitude for the love and support, especially over the last year, to those who have been part of Debbie’s life. To Debbie, friends were family whom one chooses with their heart. She counted herself blessed to have such a supportive and caring network around her.
She will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her devoted husband Thomas of 47 years along with family and friends; Daughter Kira Hasbargen of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Son Tristan Hasbargen, wife Julia, and their sons whom Debbie adored, Mason, Emerson, Benaiah and Gibson of Tallahassee, Florida; Brother Michael Dokken (wife Sandra Wesner) of Bloomington, Minnesota, their children William (wife Liesel) Dokken of St. Paul, Minnesota and Emma Dokken of Fridley, Minnesota; Sister Lisa Thomson (husband Joel) of Minnetonka, Minnesota; In-laws, Tom’s immediate family, Roger and Siegrid Hasbargen, Brother Ronald Hasbargen and Sister Heidi Hasbargen of Port Charlotte, FL. Debbie is preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Helen Dokken, Bloomington, Minnesota.
