Doris L. Bates, 92, of Venice, Florida passed away peacefully to be with her Heavenly Father on February 13, 2023, with her daughter by her side. Doris was a long-time resident of Port Charlotte, Florida prior to moving to Venice.
She was born on February 24, 1930, in Staten Island, New York to the late Stetson D. Richmond and Dorothy Richmond. Her family made their home in Boonton, New Jersey where she attended Boonton High School. After High School she attended Berkeley Secretarial School in New York City.
Doris spent her career in banking and retired as a bank manager for PNC. Upon retirement, she relocated to Port Charlotte, Florida where she enjoyed life to the fullest. She loved music and dancing, so she joined the Forever Young Dancers and tapped her way to happiness. As a dancer she performed many shows at the Charlotte County Cultural Center. She loved being on stage, and you could see it in her smile. Not only did she perform at the cultural center, but she also spent many hours volunteering there as well. Doris was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Port Charlotte.
When she wasn’t dancing, you could find her by the pool soaking up the sun and swimming. Doris also enjoyed knitting and social outings with her friends.
Doris always had a smile on her face and would bring smiles to those she came in contact with during her lifetime. She had a warm, loving heart and worried about others before herself. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. There are not enough words to describe her and those who knew her and loved her.
She is survived by her sons Robert (Patty) Carroll of Stewartsville, New Jersey, Richard (Paula) Carroll of Flanders, New Jersey and daughter Patricia (Michael) Coe of Venice, Florida. She had 10 grandchildren, Christina Murphy, Michael Carroll, Steven Carroll, Matthew Carroll, Kevin Carroll, Jonathan Carroll, Rachael Strauss, Zachary Strauss, Ariel Pollock and Leah Strauss. In addition, she had 8 Great Grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by Her loving husband John Bates and brother Stetson Richmond.
Doris will be laid to rest at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Port Charlotte, Florida. Graveside Services will be held on Friday, February 24th at 10:00 am.
