She was born March 12, 1925 in Delmar, Maryland and moved to Port Charlotte in 1958 from Seaford, Delaware. In 1960, she and her late husband, J. Horace Payne moved to North Port, where they became one of the first residents. Doris was a member of the Port Charlotte United Methodist Church, a charter member of the North Port Women’s Club and was one of the founders of the North Port Library.
Survived by her loving family, a daughter, Karen Gallagher of Bradenton, FL; a son, Steven H. (Judy) Payne of Charlotte, NC; and 2 grandchildren, Sarah and Steven Payne.
Graveside services and interment will be held Monday 2:00 PM August 20, 2012 at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, Port Charlotte. Rev. Brian James will officiate.
