The family of Earle Jay Carlson, 60, of Port Charlotte, Florida is profoundly sad to announce Jay passed away Friday, December 7, 2018 at Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte.

Jay was born in Hobart, Indiana, grew up in the Chicago area and moved to Charlotte County in 1975 from Miami, Florida. He was a graduate of Charlotte High School, Punta Gorda, Florida. Jay was a Florida licensed
General Contractor and President of carlson and soforth of Punta Gorda. He was Chairman of the Florida Building Commission, Member of the Charlotte-DeSoto Building Industry Association, and the Florida Home Builders Association serving as President in 2009 and most humbly elected into the FHBA Hall of Fame in 2016. Jay coached both of his sons who played for the Pop-Warner Port Charlotte Bandits football teams in the mid 1990’s .

He is survived by his loving family: his wife, Gina Marie Carlson of Port Charlotte; two sons, Robert Jacob Carlson (Gabrielle C.) and John Joseph Carlson both of Port Charlotte; mother, Naomi A. Carlson Miller and step-father, Robert R. Miller of Vero Beach, FL; brother, Robert Randall ‘Randy’ (Vikki) Carlson of San Antonio, TX; sisters, Marcy Carlson Beatty (Joe) of Vero Beach, FL and Wendy Miller Kelly (Tim) of Sarasota, FL.
Jay was predeceased by his beloved father, Robert W Carlson, and grandparents Walfred and Frieda Carlson and grandparents Earle and Beatrice Powis who were instrumental in his upbringing.

The extended Carlson family thanks the Cardiac ICU staff for it’s wonderful care of Jay and his family. We would like to express our special gratitude to nurses Kristen F. (Scarecrow), Jennifer B., Michaelene C., Edith B., respiratory tech Jen C., Dr. F. Monge, and Dr. D. Stapleton.

Deepest Condolences to the Carlson family. Jay was a man of his word. He always had a kind word and a smile. It was my pleasure and honor to have known and worked with him

I wanted to offer my most sincere condolences to Jay's family and friends. I greatly enjoyed working closely with Jay in his role first as a Commissioner and subsequently as the Governor's Chair of the Commission. I would like to express my deepest condolences on the loss of your husband, father, son and brother. When a family loses somebody close to them who was as young as Jay was, they have to wonder why their loved one had to die at all. But God gives us his personal promise found in the Bible at Revelation 21:4, where God tells us that very soon he will do away with death and sickness from the Earth forever, and then he will resurrect Jay to perfect life here on Earth being reunited with family and friends and being able to experience life as God meant it to be which has always been God's purpose for mankind and for his Earth.

Jay was a knowledgeable and great leader. Jay was generous in sharing his time to make Florida a better state for everyone. Jay will be missed by many

It is inconceivable to realize this information about Jay is true. This gentle man was such an important person for all the reasons those who were lucky enough to call him their friend, knew him to be. His forever smile that caused anyone seeing it caused them to smile too. Behind that smile was an easy going, willingly helpful man. Gina, both Nelson and I are so sorry you, your boys and family are enduring this tremendous loss. All of us who knew this man are most certainly sharing this sadness with you.

Jay was a light and a friend and mentor to many of us. I am so sorry for the loss of your husband, father and our friend. RIP Jay.

I was so saddened to hear of Jay's passing. I remember him as being larger than life. I know he loved his family and his work and it showed. So sorry for your loss.

To have known and served with Jay Carlson in the CDBIA(CBCA) was a great experience. I am privileged to have been in the same industry as Jay. As a Past-President myself, Jay was always just a phone call away. He was part of a great group of other leaders cut from that same cloth. The building industry will truly miss the presence of Jay Carlson. Gina, John & Jacob, please know how truly he was respected. Behind this great man is great family.

The home builder members in Louisiana will be forever grateful to Jay for his assistance with Chinese Drywall and I will be grateful I was his friend for years afterward. From the members of the NAHB "Well done my good and faithful servant." You will always be in our hearts as a shining example of what it means to be a home builder.

My old friend Jay Carlson is gone. He was such a loving and caring person. All that got to meet and know him knew that immediately. I had the privilege of having him as a friend and my local President when we were the CBCA (Charlotte Builders and Contractors Association ) for two times. Involvement was his forte. And he always had his brain in gear before he spoke. The memories and laughs that we have are remarkable. Farewell my friend, I will always think of you until we meet again.All my love and admiration to your wonderful family. I am so fortunate to have known the Carlson clan...Bob, Randy and Jay.
