The family of Earle Jay Carlson, 60, of Port Charlotte, Florida is profoundly sad to announce Jay passed away Friday, December 7, 2018 at Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte.
Jay was born in Hobart, Indiana, grew up in the Chicago area and moved to Charlotte County in 1975 from Miami, Florida. He was a graduate of Charlotte High School, Punta Gorda, Florida. Jay was a Florida licensed
General Contractor and President of carlson and soforth of Punta Gorda. He was Chairman of the Florida Building Commission, Member of the Charlotte-DeSoto Building Industry Association, and the Florida Home Builders Association serving as President in 2009 and most humbly elected into the FHBA Hall of Fame in 2016. Jay coached both of his sons who played for the Pop-Warner Port Charlotte Bandits football teams in the mid 1990’s .
He is survived by his loving family: his wife, Gina Marie Carlson of Port Charlotte; two sons, Robert Jacob Carlson (Gabrielle C.) and John Joseph Carlson both of Port Charlotte; mother, Naomi A. Carlson Miller and step-father, Robert R. Miller of Vero Beach, FL; brother, Robert Randall ‘Randy’ (Vikki) Carlson of San Antonio, TX; sisters, Marcy Carlson Beatty (Joe) of Vero Beach, FL and Wendy Miller Kelly (Tim) of Sarasota, FL.
Jay was predeceased by his beloved father, Robert W Carlson, and grandparents Walfred and Frieda Carlson and grandparents Earle and Beatrice Powis who were instrumental in his upbringing.
The extended Carlson family thanks the Cardiac ICU staff for it’s wonderful care of Jay and his family. We would like to express our special gratitude to nurses Kristen F. (Scarecrow), Jennifer B., Michaelene C., Edith B., respiratory tech Jen C., Dr. F. Monge, and Dr. D. Stapleton.
A Celebration of Life Gathering for family and friends will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at the Port Charlotte Beach Recreation Center, 4500 Harbor Blvd., in Port Charlotte, Florida 33952.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Jay Carlson Memorial Trust, c/o of Charlotte State Bank & Trust, 1100 Tamiami Trail, Port Charlotte, FL 33953 or at any branch location.
