Edward “Ed” Louis Maier, age 87, of Punta Gorda, Florida, formerly of New Canaan, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 22, 2018, at his Punta Gorda residence.
Ed was born in Pennsylvania, in June of 1930 to the late Louis and Frances Maier. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he was honorably discharged from service with the rank of Lt. Commander. Ed enjoyed a long career with the Xerox Corporation, retiring as an executive, before relocating to Punta Gorda, FL from New Canaan, CT, in 1996 with his wife Mary Jo. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Punta Gorda, and the Knights of Columbus Council No. 8074.
He is survived by five loving children, daughters, Carolyn Maier of Punta Gorda, Valerie Ellis of Pinehurst, NC, and Kim Maier of Melbourne, FL, and sons, Edward L. (Debra) Maier, Jr. of Pittsford, NY, and Jeff (Lisa) Maier of Huntington, NY; eight grandchildren, and four great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by a sister Theresa Shramek, one grandchild, and his beloved wife of 58 years, Mary Jo.
A Mass of Christian burial celebrating Edwards’ life will be held 11 a.m. on Friday, April 27, 2018, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Punta Gorda. Committal will be held in Erie, Pennsylvania, at a later date.
