Elizabeth Rose “Lilly” Costello, age 78, of Wesley Chapel, Florida, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 8, 2023, in New Port Richey, Florida.
Lilly was born on August 29th, 1944, in County Cork, Ireland, to the late Henry & Elizabeth Connolly. She loved singing, painting, and sewing. Lilly attended St. Vincent’s Convent High School, and the Cork College of Commerce for 2 years. Lilly decided to follow her sisters, Kitty, and Nuala and made the move to the United States. Settling in Dorchester, Massachusetts, she became a permanent resident alien. Lilly’s college studies would serve as a solid foundation enabling her to join New England Mutual Life Insurance (now MetLife), and later Merrill Lynch as a Financial Analyst. She was recognized with numerous merit awards. Lilly met her beloved husband John at a New England Mutual statewide ballroom dance. They married on June 26, 1982, at St. Mark’s Church in Dorchester.
John and Lilly moved from Dorchester to Norwood, Massachusetts where they resided until retirement. In 2001, they moved to Port Charlotte, Florida to enjoy the sunshine and warm weather. They spent their time traveling and Lilly joined the 3rd Order of St. Francis Choir and Bible Study group at St. Borromeo Church Catholic Church in Port Charlotte. In June 2020, Lilly moved to the Tampa area where she cherished being with her nephew Greg and his family.
In addition to her parents, her sisters Kitty, Ann and Nuala, and a brother George also pre-deceased her, as well as her husband John Costello. Lilly is survived by her brother Harold, a sister, Mary, and many extended family members.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Lilly on Thursday, 11:00 AM, February 23, 2023, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Port Charlotte, Florida. A Catholic committal and burial will follow, were Lilly will be laid to rest with her beloved husband John at Restlawn Memorial Gardens’ cemetery, also in Port Charlotte, Florida.
