At an early age, Elsworth had to leave school to help support his family. He was a jack of all trades and could fix anything. He was skilled in masonry and carpentry.
He met and married his lovely wife, Geraldine in 1959. There were 5 children born of their union. In 1968, they relocated to the United States and settled in Brooklyn, New York. Elsworth began working in his trade and driving for a taxi service at night. He assisted in supporting his family with his many skills. Elsworth was a true “Jamaican.” He had many jobs.
Elsworth had a great love for God and was an instrumental part in the founding and building of the Faith Christian Missionary Church of God in Brooklyn, NY. He worked diligently preaching the gospel as a minister in the church. He always had kind words to say to whoever’s path he crossed. He would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it.
In 1995, Elsworth and Geraldine relocated to Florida where he began to look for a home church. He eventually became a member of United Evangelical & Missionary Outreach. He enjoyed attending Sunday Service and preaching the word. He loved reading and conversing about politics. He believed everyone should attain a good education. He could speak with anyone about any subject. Elsworth believed that if you worked hard you would succeed. He would always say not to judge people but instead have a conversation with the person and you might be surprised by what you might learn. He strongly believed in that. That was evidenced by the way he would just start up a conversation with any and everyone.
Reverend Elsworth Watson passed away on May 13, 2023, in Port Charlotte, FL. He will be missed dearly.
