Frank E. Sturges, 81, of Punta Gorda, Florida died Saturday, December 3, 2011 at home in Punta Gorda.
Frank was born January 8, 1930 in Carbondale, Pennsylvania to the late Frank and Alice Sturges. He was a retired Captain for Trans World Airlines (TWA), retiring in 1990 after 34 years of service. Frank was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in both the U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps. He and his wife Jane moved to Cape Haze, Florida in 1978 from Lake Quivira, Kansas where he served as a municipal councilman and church alderman. In 1993, he and Jane relocated to Punta Gorda. He was a founding member and past President of the Charlotte County Republican Club. Frank also was active in the MOAA, where he served as Acting Chair of the Marine Band Committee. He attended the Church of the Good Shepherd-Episcopal of Punta Gorda. Frank loved his family, politics, humor, U.S. history, and music, especially classical, barbershop, military and big bands.
Survived by his loving family, wife of 54 years, Jane H. Sturges of Punta Gorda; two daughters, Stephany (Mike) Carr of Naples, FL and Sharon (Jim Armstrong) Sturges of Grand Junction, Colorado; a brother, James (Terry) Sturges of Englewood, FL; and 4 grandchildren, Mary Carr, Katherine Carr, Izaac Armstrong Sturges and Ursula Armstrong Sturges. He will be missed greatly by his friends and family.
Visitation will be held Thursday 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Dec. 8, 2011 at Roberson Funeral Home Punta Gorda Chapel. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home Friday 2:00 PM, Dec. 9, 2011. The Rev. Roy W. Tuff of the Church of the Good Shepherd-Episcopal of Punta Gorda will officiate.
Committal services and military honors by a U.S. Marine Corps Honor Guard will be held Monday 12 Noon, December 12, 2011 at Sarasota National Cemetery, Sarasota, Florida.
