Frank was born January 8, 1930 in Carbondale, Pennsylvania to the late Frank and Alice Sturges. He was a retired Captain for Trans World Airlines (TWA), retiring in 1990 after 34 years of service. Frank was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in both the U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps. He and his wife Jane moved to Cape Haze, Florida in 1978 from Lake Quivira, Kansas where he served as a municipal councilman and church alderman. In 1993, he and Jane relocated to Punta Gorda. He was a founding member and past President of the Charlotte County Republican Club. Frank also was active in the MOAA, where he served as Acting Chair of the Marine Band Committee. He attended the Church of the Good Shepherd-Episcopal of Punta Gorda. Frank loved his family, politics, humor, U.S. history, and music, especially classical, barbershop, military and big bands.
Survived by his loving family, wife of 54 years, Jane H. Sturges of Punta Gorda; two daughters, Stephany (Mike) Carr of Naples, FL and Sharon (Jim Armstrong) Sturges of Grand Junction, Colorado; a brother, James (Terry) Sturges of Englewood, FL; and 4 grandchildren, Mary Carr, Katherine Carr, Izaac Armstrong Sturges and Ursula Armstrong Sturges. He will be missed greatly by his friends and family.
Visitation will be held Thursday 6:00 to 8:00 PM, Dec. 8, 2011 at Roberson Funeral Home Punta Gorda Chapel. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home Friday 2:00 PM, Dec. 9, 2011. The Rev. Roy W. Tuff of the Church of the Good Shepherd-Episcopal of Punta Gorda will officiate.
Committal services and military honors by a U.S. Marine Corps Honor Guard will be held Monday 12 Noon, December 12, 2011 at Sarasota National Cemetery, Sarasota, Florida.
Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements by Roberson Funeral Home & Crematory Punta Gorda Chapel.

Dad had growing up on Crandall Street. He really was a great man and I throughly enjoyed every minute that we shared. Dearest Jane, Frank was one heck of a great guy. I loved his sense of humor, his cooperation and willingness to help in any way he could. I remember his coming to the EAA 565 at my request and he spoke of his past experiences and kept the audience truly interested. He had quite a background but still maintained a regular guy attitude. He was a patriot and will be missed by me for sure. I am glad I got to see him the day I visited with Don Lee at the Regional Medical Hospital.
