Franklin “Frank” Overbey, 71, of Port Charlotte, Florida passed away Friday, August 10, 2012 at Sterling House of Port Charlotte.
Frank was born September 13, 1940 in LaFollette, Tennessee to Edgar and Josie Bell Morton Overbey. Frank graduated with Bachelor’s degrees in history and Spanish from Lincoln Memorial University and a master’s degree in guidance education from Florida Atlantic University. In 1962, he came to Florida to teach Spanish and social studies at Charlotte High School, where he worked until his retirement in 1992. Frank enjoyed being outdoors and spent much of his free time fishing when he first came to Florida. His favorite hobby, however, was beekeeping, in which he was mentored by the late Forrest Nelson.
He is survived by his daughter, Trudy Overbey of Port Charlotte, and his son, Garry Overbey of Port Charlotte; his brother, Lewis (Carol) Overbey of Knoxville, Tenn., and two sisters Charlotte (Esco) Owens and Connie (Harold) Tackett, both of Caryville, Tenn. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Joe Ann Dagley.
Visitation will be held 6:00PM-8:00PM, Monday, August 13, 2012 at Roberson Funeral Home Port Charlotte Chapel. Additional visitation, funeral services and burial will be held at a later date at Martin-Wilson Funeral Home in LaFollette, TN.
