Gary Robert Streeter formerly of Cortland, NY passed away on April 22, 2024 at his home in
Port Charlotte, FL.
Gary was born on January 23, 1951 in Cortland, the son of the late Robert I
and (Marian J. Ellis) Streeter. He graduated from Cortland Jr. Sr. High School in 1970. He was
honorably discharged from the US Army serving from 1971-1973 during Vietnam War and
served as a cook. While in Cortland, he worked for Acme Market, Sambo’s, King’s Den in Ithaca, and a men’s
clothing store in Pen Can Mall. He moved to Bradenton, Fl in 1979 opening Hair’s New York,
New York and later moved to Port Charlotte where he worked at Charles at the Ritz in Ponta
Gorda; sold antiques in Arcadia and did appraisals. He loved cooking. Gary was a former
member of Port Charlotte Players and made costumes, did hair styling, and makeup for the
actors. He also attended many Zotos Hair Shows doing demonstrations in the United States and
overseas.
Gary is survived by his son. Robert Ivan (Hearther Rew) Streeter II, granddaughters Rhianna
“Ry” Corrinne and Natalie Fay Streeter of Evans Mills, NY; siblings Barbara S Bergeron,
Homer, NY, Richard J (Marie Stevens) Groton, NY, and Cynthia A (Patrick) Finsterwalder,
Cortland, NY, nieces, nephews, grand nieces, a grandnephew, and cousins.
A private family burial will be held Saturday, June 8th at Willow Glen Cemetery, Dryden NY.
