George J. Mekosh, 59, of Port Charlotte, Florida, passed away Friday evening, December 26, 2008 at Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte.

George was born George Joseph Mekosh on September 12, 1949 in Ashland, Pennsylvania. A veteran of the Vietnam War, United States Army and a retired telephone cable subcontractor, George lived in Creston, Iowa until relocating to Port Charlotte, Florida in 2000. He was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Loyal Order of Moose, American Legion Post 110 and member and Chaplin of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5690, all of Port Charlotte.

George is survived by his beloved mother, Mary Ann Mekosh of Port Charlotte; one brother, Major Gerald J. Mekosh USAF, Robins AFB, GA; a son, Lucas Mekosh of AZ, and daughter, Jennifer Mekosh of PA, two grandsons, and 3 nephews. George was preceded in death by his father George and a brother, Paul Mekosh.
