Gloria Kirchner Ozimek, 78, of Port Charlotte, Florida and formally of Albany, New York passed away Sunday, June 4, 2023 after an arduous 12 year battle with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

Gloria was born in 1945 to Mildred and Stuart Kirchner of Albany, NY. Gloria’s early career began in the Albany County School system, working at Guilderland Elementary as the office secretary. She went on to become the librarian at Farnsworth Middle School. Later, Gloria worked for the Albany County Executive; there she went on to become office manager for the Albany County Mental Health Department. Upon her retirement, Gloria enriched her career by starting her own real estate company Ozimek Realty, Ltd. Which serviced much of the hill towns of Albany County. She truly enjoyed real estate for nearly 30 years. Gloria had many dear friends in the town and hamlets of Guilderland, New Scotland, Westerlo, Berne and Greenville, NY. Moving to Florida in 2004, she and her family began a new lifestyle. Having to stay busy, she became a para-professional within the Charlotte County School System working with children with special needs in the Pre-K setting for several years. The Children knew her as Miss Gloria, and they adopted her as a working grandmother. Gloria was a true animal lover and never met one that she didn’t want to take home. Her favorites were her three dogs, Schatze, Ebba and Jellybean. Gloria was also a travel and cruise lover. She was a communicant of St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church in Port Charlotte.

Survivors include her son, Eric (Tiffany) Lane; her grandchildren, Devon (Landyn) Spradling, Dylan Lane and Mckenzie Lane and her great-granddaughter, Dani Spradling. She is also survived by her loving husband of 42 years, Tom.

A Memorial Service will be held 11AM, Saturday, July 8, 2023 at Roberson Funeral Home & Crematory, 2151 Tamiami Trail Port Charlotte, FL 33948. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Gloria’s name may be made to Southeastern Guide Dogs, 4210 77^th Street E. Palmetto, FL 34221 or www.guidedogs.org. The family extends their heart filled thanks for her care from the Florida Cancer Specialists, Dr. Vance Wright-Browne and her staff. A Special Thank you is sent to the entire nursing and administrative staff of Tidewell Hospice Inc. in Charlotte County.

Dear Tom, Eric and family, Our heartfelt condolences to you all. Gloria was a true fighter and a dear friend to us all. She never failed to call my parents every day to check in on them and when my Mom passed, did the same for my father and would always call me if she couldn't reach them. She was one of the few (and for years the only one) to do this which says so much about her and her caring for others. She will be dearly missed.

I met Gloria and Tom 1990 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen while watching Schuhplattler dance. A perfect setting, as I remember Gloria as a happy person loving to have fun in a big community. During my many travels to the USA I often visited the family and friends in Slingerlands and we spent a lot of happy hours. It is sad that during the last years we could only communicate via FaceTime but this is far better than nothing. I will always remember Gloria as a friendly and caring wife as well as host in her beautiful home. Visiting there made you being a part of family. I deeply miss her.

I am so sorry to hear of Gloria’s passing. She was a wonderful friend to the students and staff of Neil Armstrong Elementary. She will be forever remembered as a nurturer to all children. She will be missed greatly. With love, Angie Taillon
