Gloria V. “Tany” Horton, age 83, of Port Charlotte, Florida, formerly of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, passed away in Port Charlotte on Thursday, January 24, 2019.
Born in Jay, Florida in November of 1935 to the late William W. and Bertha Lou Kite, Gloria, or “Tany” as her family and friends knew her by, returned to her native Florida in 2011 from Mt. Carmel, where she had worked as the city Librarian for many years until her retirement. She enjoyed learning and school, earning four Associates degrees in six years, reading and traveling. Following the death of her beloved husband of 37 years, Eddie Lee Horton in 1988, Gloria traveled even more extensively to see new places.
She is survived by her sons William Shawn (spouse Maggie) Horton of Port Charlotte, FL, and Kevin L. (spouse Melanie) Horton of Vincennes, IN; grandchildren, Shannon, Joseph, Philip, Jennifer, Christopher, Matthew, Stephanie, Nathanial and Meagan, and eight great grandchildren; a brother, William Rodney Kite, and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members. In addition to her husband and parents, Gloria was preceded in death be a son, Eddie E. Horton, and sisters, Icleatus Albritton and Wilmerth Taylor.
Visitation and Funeral Service, will be held this Tuesday, January 29, 2019, at Roberson Funeral Homes Chapel at 2151 Tamiami Trail in Port Charlotte, FL. Viewing will begin at 1 pm, and continue until start of service at 2 pm. Burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens cemetery in Port Charlotte.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the International Rett Syndrome Association at 4600 Devitt Drive, in Cincinnati, OH 45246.
