GRACE E. AMODEO, 83, of Port Charlotte, Florida died Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at Tidewell Hospice, Port Charlotte.
Grace was born August 31, 1929 in Albany, New York and moved to Port Charlotte in 1984 from there. She rose through the ranks of St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany where she sarted as a secretary and eventually became the hospital’s acting public relations director. Grace was a former President of the Women’s Press Association in Albany. She loved Charlotte County and was very active in community affairs. For many years she was a volunteer at front desk of St. Joseph Hospital which is now Peace River Regional Medical Center in Port Charlotte and served as a Lector at St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church.
She was a member of the Charlotte County Construction Board of Adjustments & Appeals,Charlotte Harbor Community Redevelopment Committee, Charlotte County Parks & RecreationAdvisory Committee, Manchester Waterway Advisory Committee and the Community Action Agency Advisory Committee. Grace also regularly attended the Charlotte County Board of County Commissioners meetings and workshops, the Marine Advisory Board, Charlotte County Board of Zoning Appeals and the Enterprise Charlotte Board meetings.
She is survived by her loving family, her husband of 62 years, Paul A. Amodeo, Sr. of Port Charlotte; two sons, Paul A. Amodeo, Jr. of Colonie, NY and Lee R. Amodeo of Southbridge, MA; two sisters, Verna Bolton and Rose Gabel both of Albany, NY ; a brother, William Edick of Selkirk, NY; 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Saturday 6-8 PM, December 22, 2012 at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held Sunday 2:00 PM, December 23 at Roberson Funeral Home Port Charlotte Chapel. The Rev. Vincent Scotto will officiate. Committal services and entombment will be held later at Edgewood Chapel of Memory Gardens Cemetery & Memorial Park, Albany, NY.
