Gracie K. Peterson of Port Charlotte, passed away peacefully on Sept. 27, at the age of 99.

She grew up on a Kentucky tobacco farm and took pride in her humble roots. She met Thomas while he was stationed for training at the US Army Base, Fort Campbell, Kentucky. They married after he returned from combat at the end of WWII.

Upon retirement, the couple moved to Punta Gorda, where Gracie became active in artwork. She wrote, illustrated, and published a children’s story book, “Hoppy and the Wonderful Pond.” Encouraged by her son Larry, she also wrote her autobiography, “View from the Caboose,” excerpts of which appear at Filson Historical Society Library in Louisville.

She is survived by her sons Robert and Larry. She enjoyed people and made friends easily. She will be missed.

A memorial service will be held outdoors at the pavilion of Harbor Heights Park, 27420 Voyageur Dr, Punta Gorda, on Nov. 15 at 10:30 AM. Feel free to dress casually or otherwise. For any questions, call Bob at 941-258-2781.
