Born in India, Dr. Desai went to England to further his medical education from 1961 – 1968. In 1968 he came to America. He settled in Punta Gorda, FL in 1978. Dr. Desai spent most of his life practicing medicine as a cardiologist. As a prominent member of the medical community, he served as President of the medical staff at both Fawcett Memorial Hospital and Charlotte Regional Medical Center. After Dr. Desai retired in 2005 he continued to volunteer his medical services at the Virginia B. Andes Volunteer Community Clinic. An active member of the Indian Association and a generous contributor of both time and money to the United Way, American Cancer, American Lung, and American Heart Assoc.
He is survived by his wife, Mayuri G.Desai; a son, Milan G.(Suerita R.)Desai; a daughter, Mamata D.(Christopher D.)Ives; two sisters, Urmila S. Shah and Hemalata D. Shah; and four grandchildren, Maya, Davika, Sanjay and Zoe. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ochavala and Mahala Shah Desai, a brother, Yesvantlal O. Desai and a sister, Jaya N. Shah.
Visitation will held be from 2:00PM to 4:00PM, Sunday Nov. 23, 2014 with a Funeral Service at 4:00PM at Roberson Funeral Home Port Charlotte Chapel, 2151 Tamiami Trail, Port Charlotte, FL 33948.

We were touched by Gunvant kaka's kind,gentle and unassuming nature and he was so spontaneous with his characteristic radiant smile in sharing his vast and interesting worldly experiences with us, making us feel so comfortable and part of his family. We were anxiously planning to be with him and his family during the up coming holidays to recapture and rekindle the pleasant memories of our first meeting.
