Helen G. Schaefer, 89, of Port Charlotte, Florida died Thursday, May 10, 2012 at her residence.

Helen was born November 11, 1922 in Durham, New Hampshire, one of 11 children. After the death of her first husband Alfred G. Pinette, she moved to Port Charlotte in 1957. In 1969 she remarried and helped run the Harbor Egg Farm and Merit Gas Station till her husband Ralph Schaefer’s death in 1996. She was a wonderful, loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother, and will be greatly missed.

She is survived by two daughters, Linda (Gregory) Fitzpatrick of Port Charlotte, and Kathleen E. (Michael) Weaver of Fort Myers, FL; grandchildren, Brian, Kevin, Tracy (John), Michael II (Kelly), and Brittany; and great grandchildren, Trevor, J.T., Madison, and Myleigh.

Visitation will be from 1 to 2 PM, with Funeral Services to be held at 2 PM Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at Roberson Funeral Homes, Port Charlotte Chapel. Committal and burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens cemetery in Port Charlotte.

Memorial bequests in Helen’s name are suggested to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Dear Kathy and Linda so sorry to hear of your loss. I have fond memories of your Mom of whom you must be very proud. To me Aunt Helen was a women of strenght, living in Hudson then moving to Florida with you girls, taking on lifes challenges head on. Willing take on any task while remaining cheerful and positive. What a great role model and makes me proud to be part of the Hardy family. Love always, Don

While home on leave in 1970, my parents (Al & Doris), Brother George and Sister Holly visited with Ralph, Aunt Helen and her daughters. It was a very pleasant visit that I have remembered fondly over the years. I always had a great respect for Aunt Helen for what she had accomplished and more importantly for being the person that she was.

So sorry for you loss Linda...our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

We visited Aunt Helen quite a while ago and had a wonderful time there in Florida, playing cards with plenty of laughs. A nice visit. We enjoyed her company. We have thought of her often through the years. We will keep her in our hearts.

One of my favorite memories of Aunt Helen occurred many years ago at Grammie & Grampa Hardy's home. I was a very little girl. Uncle Al was taking a nap in front of the house on a blanket with the local traffic passing by on the Lowell Road. Aunt Helen decided to paint his toenails a very bright color! When he woke up, he was furious and we all laughed our heads off!! Aunt Helen was a lot of fun. I have such fond memories of her.
