Helen Shultz, 83, passed away Sunday, January 13, 2013 in Port Charlotte, FL.
Helen was born in Bradford, PA on November 8, 1929. She grew up in Bradford, graduated from high school, married, and raised her family there. Helen worked for the telephone company for thirty years, first in Bradford and later in Warren, PA and Altoona, PA. She and her husband, Paul, retired in Port Charlotte, FL in 1986.
After “retiring,” Helen worked part-time in the Pirate’s Ketch in Punta Gorda, FL for a year or two; she volunteered with Guardians Ad Litem for the next ten or twelve years, advocating for children; she read to children at the elementary school for a couple years; and she began doing stained glass work, eventually becoming an accomplished stained glass artist. She also gave blood, bought groceries and the like for the needy, and helped the community through the various activities of the Telephone Pioneers of Port Charlotte.
Helen was beautiful, compassionate, feisty and fun and we miss her like crazy!
Helen is survived by her husband of 63 years, Paul Shultz, her daughter, Lise, and son, Paul, and her grandchildren, Bobby, Ricky, Frank, and Katie. She is also survived by her brothers, Tony, Sam, and Orlando Arlia of Cleveland, OH, Alfred Arlia of Bradford, PA, and her sister, Virginia Lucero of Manhattan Beach, CA, plus numerous nieces and nephews.
A mass will be offered for Helen on January 27, 2013 at 5:00 PM at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church in Port Charlotte, FL. If you wish, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to any organization doing research on Alzheimer’s disease.
