Hopeton was born on February 26, 1934 in the parish of Hanover, Jamaica, W.I. to Charles and Ida McMahon. Twelve children were born from that union. At the age of twenty two his mother died. He then traveled to Kingston to seek employment. His first job was at the Mrytle Bank Hotel as a presser. He went on to join the Jamaica Constabulary Force where he served from 1959 to 1968. He then immigrated to the USA where he met and married Pearline, with whom he had three children.
In 1969 he took a job with Karen Fashion as a shipping clerk and worked his way up to be manager of the company where he would work for 26 years. In 1996 he moved to Port Charlotte. He then met and married his beautiful wife, Audrey.
He will be sadly missed by his wife Audrey, daughters Carol, Betty, Cherry, Sandra, Denise and Sharon, and son Mark; five grandsons, four granddaughters; four sisters, Linda, Leila, Elleen and Mernel; and his numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, in-laws, church family and friends.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, August 2, 2013 at Roberson Funeral Home, Port Charlotte Chapel. Funeral services will be begin 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 3, 2013 at Port Charlotte New Testament Church of God on Midway Blvd., with committal and entombment to follow.
Arrangements are by Roberson Funeral Home Port Charlotte Chapel.
