Irene was born on November 18, 1929, in Speyside, Trinidad & Tobago. Irene migrated to America as a young woman moving to New York. Her first job was a nannie to a family with three children whom she loved dearly. She accepted a housekeeping job at Sloan Kettering Center in Manhattan, New York. There, she met Vida Dwyer who later moved to Port Charlotte. In 1988, Irene moved to Port Charlotte, built a house and worked at Vida’s Store. Irene resided in Port Charlotte for 30 years at 3 assisted living facilities, Brookdale, Parkside and Lexington Manor. Irene and her husband had a ministry reaching out to residents of nursing homes. They attended Calvary Assembly of God Church for many years. She took a keen interest in the bible and was able to memorize and quote many chapters word for word. She offered her wisdom to those around her, making her a great conversationalist. She absolutely loved singing gospel songs and listening to Jimmy Swaggert. She had a passion for people to have been saved and living their lives serving the Lord. She traveled to many places and countries and was most grateful for her trip to Israel with family and friends. Irene was a frank person who would tell you like it is even if it displeased you though the intent was never to hurt anyone but to steer you to better yourself. She had a huge heart for people and often gave some of her belongings to many people who needed them most. Irene was a beautiful woman who loved life to the fullest and will forever be missed and loved by all who knew her.
Survivors are her adopted daughter, Pamela John and 3 other daughters; her caretakers, Janet Barrow, Maureen Salem, Corrine Nicols; her nieces, Leotha McPherson and Glenda Griffith and many other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Joseph Fox; her parents, Leon and Gertrude (Napier) McPherson; her siblings, Edward and Herbert McPherson, Ivy McKenna, Evelyn Clocke, Mary York, Leontine Robinson, Eileen McPherson, Irene Standy, Mimie Sandy and Nila McPherson.
Graveside services and entombment was held Thursday 10:00 AM, April 17, 2025, at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, Port Charlotte, Florida.
