JAMES NELSON CURTIS, 91, of Port Charlotte, Florida died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013 at Fawcett Memorial Hospital, Port Charlotte.

He was born January 25, 1922 in Festus, Missouri. James moved to Carbondale, Illinois at an early age where he attended school and worked until moving to Florida in 1970. He worked in the southern Illinois as a commercial construction superintendent and also taught classes as associate professor in construction technology at Southern Illinois University. He continued in the construction business in Florida until his retirement in 1980.

James was a 61 year plus member of the U.B. of Carpenters & Joiners Union of America. He had been the presiding officer of all four of the York Rite Bodies in Masonry. He was a veteran of World War II, serving 38 months in the U.S. Army Air Force as an instructor in instrument flying.

He is survived by his loving family, a daughter, Diane C. Peplow of Merritt Island, FL; sons, Michael Curtis of Carbondale, IL and Harry J. Curtis of Deland, FL; a brother, Robert R. Curtis of Harrisburg, IL; a nephew, Bill Curtis of Port Charlotte; and 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM to 1:45 PM, Monday, Dec. 2, 2013 at Roberson Funeral Home Port Charlotte Chapel. Graveside Services & interment will follow at 2:00 PM, Monday at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, Port Charlotte.
