James Joseph McKenna, Sr., 88, 0f Port Charlotte, Florida, passed away on Thursday, August 29, 2024, in Port Charlotte.
James was born on Friday, May 29, 1936, in Astoria, New York. Growing up in Astoria, located in Queens, James graduated from High School and went to work at the age of 17 for a supermarket, where he learned the fine art of meat cutting. He would continue meat cutting until relocating from his native New York with his wife and family to Southwest Florida in 1984. While living here in the Port Charlotte area, he remained actively working, and participating as a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Rose Marie McKenna, a son, Fred (wife Linda) McKenna, and a grandson, Ben McKenna; also, a brother, Ronald (wife Margaret) McKenna, and nieces and nephews Eileen Mollahan, Maureen Jacobersen, Chris, Susan, and Richard Weingarten. James was preceded in death by a brother, Robert McKenna, and a son, James Joseph McKenna, Jr.
A Memorial service celebrating James’ life will be held at 11 AM on Monday, September 9, 2024, at Roberson Funeral Homes Port Charlotte Chapel located at 2151 Tamiami Trail in Port Charlotte.
