James B. Stapleton, 83, of Punta Gorda, Florida passed away Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at his home in Punta Gorda.

James was born March 24, 1930 in Flint, Michigan. He was a Korean War veteran who served in the US Army. James was a most interesting man of the world, a husband, father and grandfather; he will forever be missed by all who loved and knew him.

He is survived by his children, Michael J. Stapleton of Park Forest, IL, Elizabeth M. (Dean Hadjian) Stapleton of Chicago, IL, Margarita D. (Dave) Wallinga of Naperville, IL, Kathleen A. (Steve) Michelson of Kendall, WI, Patricia E. Schomacker of Ft. Myers, FL and Monica L. (daughters, Audra and Mary Ann) LaCroix of Punta Gorda, FL and Anthony K. (Beatriz) Stapleton of Ottawa, Canada and 12 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 39 years, Mary Ann Stapleton.

A Private Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held on Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at Indian Springs Cemetery in Punta Gorda, Florida.

To Jim's Family, This past winter I had the pleasure of spending Wednesdays and Fridays with your loved one. I work for Home Instead Senior Care. We would run errands, grocery shop and have breakfast, Jim usually wanted to eat at Eleanas. He told me many Wonderful stories about his family and traveling I enjoyed his two dogs. I would give them a dog biscuit every time I came over. The yellow lab loved to swim and I told Jim they were so lucky to have such a nice pool! The last time I saw Jim was in April as I was soon to return to my home in Ohio for the summer. He stood on the porch and waved goodbye and I said I'd be back to see him in the Fall. I am sorry to hear of his passing and I pray that God will bless you all in this time of sorrow. I am glad to have known Jim, he was a very sweet man. Sincerely, Debbie Britenriker
