James Donald Thurston, 79, of Port Charlotte, Florida passed away Sunday, May 6, 2012at his residence. He was born July 20, 1932 in Montezuma, New York and moved to Port Charlotte In 1994. He was a retired dairy farmer and a veteran of the Korean War serving in the US Army.
Survived by his loving wife of 58 years of marriage, Jane L. Thurston of Port Charlotte; five daughters, Audrey Guy of Port Charlotte, Carol Thurston of Newark, NJ, Jill Tanner of Venice, FL, Donna Van Fleet of Byron, NY, and Jennifer (Brian) Smith of Port Charlotte; two sons, James Thurston and Bill Thurston both of Port Charlotte; one sister, Mary Hards of Montezuma, NY; two brothers, Tom (Shirley) Thurston of Savannah, NY and Kenny(Cathy) Thurston of Camillus, NY; twenty one grandchildren and twenty two great grandchildren; Preceded in death by a daughter, Lauri Thurston, brothers Edward Thurston, Mike Thurston and Joe Thurston and his parents, Edward and Ellen Thurston.
Visitation will be held Thursday, May 10, 2012 at 2:00 PM with a Catholic Prayer service at 4:00PM at Roberson Funeral Home Port Charlotte Chapel. Visitation, military honors and interment will take place in Port Byron, NY. at a later date.
