Dawn Hunter-Risas left a message on June 8, 2024:
Mom, I can't believe you're gone. We've been preparing for this for years, but you are such a fighter, it's hard to believe it really happened. God had His plan, as He always does, and the way and speed at which He took you left room for suffering. We were all (and still are) in shock, but knowing you are no longer in pain gives us comfort that you are where He wanted you. You are reunited with loved ones now, and I couldn't help but think, as we drove to the hospital that morning..."What's it like Mom? What do you see? Who do you see?" Then I started singing "I can Only Imagine". Did you sing? Did you Dance? Did you fall to your knees? Could you even Speak? We miss you so much mom. Always and forever. I love you. One more thing, Mom...I always called you when I had my biggest news to share. Good news, bad news, indifferent... I had the biggest news of my life happen this week, and you didn't answer. Who could I call and say "My mom died?" I'm glad I got to see you on your Birthday.

I'll miss you, Grandma. My heart is absolutely broken, but I know not everyone gets the honor of having such an incredible person guide them in life for so long. I'll help take care of Grandpa, you can rest now.
