Jennie Bakes Penridge, 95, of Bradenton, Florida died June 14, 2024. She was born in New York on May 30, 1929, to Gregory and Pota Bakes, Greek immigrants from the mountains surrounding Sparta. The oldest of three children, Jennie attended Parker secretarial school in Manhattan and began her career as secretary to the president of Q-tips and continued her career in Manhattan for many years. An avid dancer, Jennie wished she had pursued a career in dance. She cut a fine figure and enjoyed fashionable ensembles.
She and late husband Ted Penridge had three sons, Stanley, Gregory, and Andrew. Her later years were spent in Florida, and she attended First Christian Church in Bradenton.
Jennie is survived by her sons Gregory and Andrew and their families; Stanley’s son, Jesse; her siblings, George Bakes and Georgia Sigalos; and nieces and nephews nationwide.
A private committal service and entombment was held Monday, June 17, 2024, at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, Port Charlotte, Florida.
