John Gaspard Paré, 87, of Port Charlotte, Florida, passed away peacefully Saturday, July 26, 2014.

John was born January 3, 1927 in Manhattan, New York to the late Dorothy and Gaspard Paré. After serving proudly with the U.S. Navy during World War II, John began a long career in Law. He worked as a legal Attorney for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company for 27 years in their New York City Offices, and later their Tampa, Florida Offices, where he and his wife Carol would retire to in 1978. John, a great athlete, enjoyed a wide range of physical activities, but loved most of all playing Tennis. He was an active member of the Catholic Church, environmentally concerned, politically active, and worked diligently to help those less fortunate. To be closer to their family John and Carol moved from Tampa to Port Charlotte in 2012.

He is survived by his beloved family, loving wife of 57 years, E. Carol Paré; their children, sons John G. Paré Jr. of Baltimore, Maryland, and Paul W. (Edson Pinto) Paré of Lubbock, Texas, and daughter, Elizabeth “Liz” (James H.) Tietsworth of Punta Gorda, Florida; two grandsons, Bailey and John Tietsworth of Punta Gorda; a sister, Annette Lintz, and numerous other extended family members.

A Memorial Gathering will be held from 6 to 8 P.M. this Friday, August 8, 2014 with 7:00 P.M. Evening Wake Service at Roberson Funeral Homes Punta Gorda Chapel. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 11:00 A.M. Saturday, August 9, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Punta Gorda. Committal with Military Honors by the U.S. Navy will follow Monday at Sarasota National cemetery in Sarasota, Florida.

Word reached us of John's passing and we extend our sincere sympathy. We always enjoyed seeing John and Carol at daily Mass at St. Paul's Catholic Church throughout the years and missed them when they moved. We are praying for Carol and her Family during this difficult time. May God Bless you.

John, it was a pleasure, seeing you at HHS the last few months and being allowed to bring you Communion and pray with you. I am honored to have met you and being able to serve you in God's name. Rest In Peace! Win.

I had the pleasure to have met Mr. & Mrs. Pare while working at Harbour Home Care. I would continue to call him Mr Pare each time I would visit and his reply would be "no it is John" We would both smile. My sympathy to the entire family. May he rest in peace.

Jacques and I want to express our sincere sympathies to you all. It was wonderful to have been able to meet Liz's dad and Bailey and John's grandpa. He was always so sweet and encouraging at our performances. Holding the family close in our prayers during this difficult time.

I was a neighbor of John & Carol when they lived in Tampa. John was such an inspiring person. He was always busy doing something. I never saw one person read so many newspapers! I was always amazed at how in shape he was at his age. I loved seeing him outside and getting a chance to talk with him. When we lost our son three years ago, he was so sympathetic. He would just look at me, hold my hand and cry. I was so touched by his understanding of my pain. John was a great neighbor and a great person!

Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.

I was thinking of John the other day, nothing in particular, but now I know why.I knew John and Carol the last 10 years they lived in Tampa as their neighbor. John and I had a lot in common politicly and spiritually despite our age gap. John always was a gentleman and made light of the circumstances living next to a young family. If a softball would be thrown or hit in his yard he would just say she has a good arm, or when the dog gets out he would respond he just wants my biscuits. John had compassion for others. When my wife and I lost our son he and Carol were one of two neighbors who cared and was visibly upset. John embodied the greatness of his generation. John has left his mark on our family and will be remembered. My sympathies go out to Carol and their family this inevitable time.
