John Patrick Robinson, 70, of Port Charlotte, Florida died Friday, December 13, 2019 at home.
John was born November 20, 1949 in New York, New York to the late James and Eileen Robinson. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War, serving on the USS Mobile. John was a retired police officer for the Suffolk County Police Department, where he also served as a detective. He moved to Port Charlotte 7 years ago from Manorville, New York. John loved golf and was an avid player for many years. He was an astute observer of politics and history. He had a sharp intellect and quick Irish wit.
He is survived by his loving family, a sister, Mary Dougherty of Port Charlotte; a niece, Shannon Slapp of North Port, a nephew, Shaun Slapp of North Port, his cousins Gary Bates of Smithtown, NY, Douglas Bates of Fort Solonga, NY, John Cordani of Clearwater, Bobby Cordani of St. Petersburg, his dear friends Pete Falcetta of Rocky Point, NY and Marty Black of Port Charlotte; and his beloved dog Toby.
Memorial services will be held Monday 3:30 PM, December 16, 2019 at Roberson Funeral Home Chapel, 2151 Tamiami Trail, Port Charlotte, Florida 33948. Memorial services and interment with military honors by the U.S. Navy will be later in New York.
Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to: Honor Sanctuary www.nateshonoranimalrescue.org to support his love of dogs.
