John grew up in Little Ferry, New Jersey and graduated from Ridgefield Park High School in 1986, where he exceled in both sports and academics. He relocated to Port Charlotte in the early 90’s and was a carpenter by trade. He loved animals, his family, his friends, and his faith. John never met a stranger and to know him was to love him. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his parents, Carole & Richard Smith of Port Charlotte; brother Richard Smith of Port Charlotte, brother and sister-in-law Michael and Maria Smith of Coral Springs, FL, sister and brother-in-law Amy & Tommy Rea of North Port, FL and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation held Wednesday, December 10, 2014 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a Catholic Prayer Service at 6:30 PM at Roberson Funeral Home Port Charlotte Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday 11:30 AM, December 11, 2014 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Port Charlotte.
Friends may visit online at www.robersonfh.com to sign the memory book and extend condolences to the family. Arrangements are by Roberson Funeral Home Port Charlotte Chapel.

It has been over 20 years since i last saw you , but the news of your passing hit me so hard and it hurts like i just saw you yesterday.I will always remember your warm smile, cruising in my car and listening to the music that you loved to sing .Playing Basketball for hours on end.We had many great times and i have nothing but great memories of you.You shined bright like a diamond and as a friend you were the same diamond as a friend.Rest in Peace my old friend.We will see you on the other side, until then, God Bless you and your family.I always held a special place in my heart for the Smiths.I Love you my friend.Thanks for the wonderful memories.
