Joseph H. (Jeff) Konings, 85, of Port Charlotte, Florida passed away peacefully February 27, 2012 at home surrounded by his family and with the tremendous support of Tidewell Hospice.
Jeff was an amazing man, struggling with heart disease for 35 years. Throughout it all, he maintained his kind spirit and wonderful sense of humor. He was born October 22, 1926 in Maastricht, Netherlands to Herman and Maria Konings. He emigrated to the United States with his wife Aggie and baby son Herman in 1957 and settled in Wellsboro, Pennsylvania where his son Paul was born. Jeff moved his family from Big Flats, New York to Port Charlotte in 1974, where he worked as a meat cutter at U-Save Supermarket in Punta Gorda. In 1977 he was a realtor for Richmond Homes and later for Ryan Homes and retired in 1993 from Century 21 Shayman Realty. Jeff was an avid model railroader and enjoyed building life-like layouts and running model trains.
Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Aggie Konings of Port Charlotte; two sons, Herman of Port Charlotte and Paul and his wife Linda of Rotonda West, FL; a sister, Mariette of Gulpen, Netherlands, and 2 nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Henny and Tony.
Visitation with family will be held March 1, 2012 beginning at 12 Noon at Roberson Funeral Home Port Charlotte Chapel with Memorial Services at 1 PM. Immediately following the memorial services a Commital Service will be held at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, 1380 Forrest Nelson Boulevard, Port Charlotte.
