Joyce E. Rauscher-Downs, 91, of Port Charlotte, FL, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 15, 2017, in Port Charlotte.

She was born December 15, 1925, in Greenville, Illinois, to the late Phillip and Lena Wise. A former Secretary to the Superintendant of Schools for the Indianapolis, Indiana Public School System, retired to Port Charlotte, Florida in 1985 with her husband Donald Emil Rauscher who preceded her in death in April of 1995. She re-married, to Walter “Wally” M. Downs in 1996. Wally also passed away, in 2015. She was a longtime member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, in Port Charlotte.

She is survived by a daughter, Ann L. (Robert “Bob”) Campbell of Noblesville, IN, and son, Steven M. (Jamie) Rauscher of Lexington, MA; a sister, Ruth Pownall of Columbia, SC, and brother, Phillip C. (Joyce) Wise, Jr. of Decatur, IL; four grandchildren, one great grandchild, and many extended family members. In addition to her parents and husbands, Joyce was preceded in death by a son, Craig D. Rauscher, and three brothers, Mervin, Dale and Cecil Wise.

Memorial services will be held for Joyce Thursday 2:00 PM, May 18, 2017 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Port Charlotte. A private committal and interment will be held in Indianapolis at a later date.

Memorial contributions in Joyce’s name are suggested to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church – ELCA, at 2565 Tamiami Trail, Port Charlotte, FL 33952.
