Katherine Z. Gleason, 90, of Port Charlotte, Florida passed away Sunday, March 17, 2013 at Charlotte Harbor Health Care. She was born May 24, 1922 in Springfield, Massachusetts to Christos and Mary Zografos.
Katherine graduated from Commerce High School in 1940. She worked as a secretary for Westinghouse electric Co. during World War II. After the war, she became a secretary for the General Secretary of the Springfield YMCA. It was here that she met her husband, Stuart, while he was playing basketball.
After several years, they married in 1950 in Syracuse, NY. While in Syracuse Katherine worked as a secretary for the Director of the Art Department at Syracuse University. Katherine and Stuart spent the next few years in Massachusetts, Connecticut and Westchester County, NY.
Katherine and her husband, R. Stuart Gleason moved to Port Charlotte in 1972 from Scarsdale, New York, where she worked on several County Beauty Pageants with Jeff Parker and at the Regal Cinema Theater for several years. In her retirement, Katherine loved music, dancing and singing. She was a member of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church, Port Charlotte.
Survived by his loving husband of 62 years, R. Stuart Gleason of Port Charlotte; a son, Chris Gleason of Port Charlotte; a daughter, Mary Van Sciver of Sarasota, FL; a brother, Dene Zografos of Syracuse, NY, sister, Nancy Anagnos Port Charlotte; two grandchildren, Andre Mottl and Mathew Mottl of Englewood; great-granddaughter Jordana Mottl of Englewood
Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 20, 2013 from 8:45 AM to 9:30 AM at Roberson Funeral Home Port Charlotte Chapel and a funeral service will follow at 10:00 AM at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church In Port Charlotte. Rev Fr. Ioannis Krokos will officiate. Entombment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Port Charlotte.
