Larry James Stefonek, 70, of Port Charlotte, Florida passed away Monday, April 23, 2013 at his residence. He was born to his parents Richard and Anne Stefonek May 7, 1942 in Rhinelander, Wisconsin and moved to Port Charlotte in 1999 from Miami Springs, Miami. Larry was a retired Charter Pilot in Miami for many years. Member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus #5399 of Port Charlotte.
Survived by his loving wife, Gwen T. Stefonek of Port Charlotte; two brothers, Richard (Theresa) Stefonek of Punta Gorda and Greg Stefonek of Lake Suzy, FL; , Mary Wick, Tonya Stefonek ; Nieces, Farren Stefonek, Courtney, Norma Shuman, Ana Richardson, Maritza Ford and Hollie Urdaneta; nephews, Rick Stefonek, Kevin Stefonek, Mark Stefonek, Jonathan Urdaneta and Dustin Urdaneta;
Visitation will be held Thursday, April 25, 2013 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a Knights of Columbus service at 7:00 PM at Roberson Funeral Home Port Charlotte. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 AM Friday, April 26, 2013 at St Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. Committal service and entombment will follow at Restlawn Memorial Gardens in Port Charlotte.

I remember as a child, listening to you talking about being a pilot. I thought that was the coolest thing ever! I believe the last time we talked, it was about the A380 Airbus. You will be missed, but we will see you on the other side. You will no longer have the limitations of your body. My Uncle Larry was someone I always admired. I loved his laugh, humor, courage and passion for his career. At family gatherings you could always count on true stories of adventure that came with the life of an international pilot. I have to wonder…..when Uncle Larry’s spirit flew once again, leaving the gravity of earth, rising through the thick clouds…piercing up above to the warm light of the sun to then reach his destination by touching the face of god….how familiar and joyous it must have been for him to fly once again. We love you Uncle Larry and will truly miss you.
