Magali “Maggie” Gueits Kain, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2026, at her eldest son’s home in Sarasota, Florida, surrounded by the love of her family. She was 81 years old.

Born on November 9, 1944, in Puerto Rico, Maggie embraced life with warmth, curiosity, and a joyful spirit from an early age. She grew up surrounded by a large, close-knit extended family, spending treasured childhood days with her many cousins in Puerto Rico and looking forward each summer to family reunions in New York City. Those visits to her grandparents’ brownstone—where the children climbed and played on the fire escapes—became cherished memories she fondly carried throughout her life.

Maggie graduated from Hialeah High School in Miami before pursuing higher education later in life. In one of her proudest personal accomplishments, she earned her degree from Florida Southern College in 1999—the same year her daughter graduated from high school—a testament to her perseverance, determination, and lifelong belief in learning.

She built an accomplished career in public service and human resources, earning the respect of colleagues through her integrity, wisdom, and compassionate leadership. Maggie served for many years as Human Resources Director for Charlotte County Government before retiring. Never one to stop serving others, she returned to public service, working for the City of Manassas, Virginia, and later the Town of Vienna, Virginia. Living in Virginia fulfilled a lifelong dream and allowed her to spend precious years near her beloved brother and her two younger children before eventually returning to Florida to be close to her eldest son.

Maggie’s faith in the Lord was the foundation of her life and shaped every decision she made. She exemplified humility, quiet strength, patience, diplomacy, kindness, and unconditional love. She treated every person with dignity and grace, offering wisdom without judgment and encouragement without expectation.

She delighted in reading, enjoyed music of every genre, loved preparing meals for those she cared about, and treasured every opportunity to gather with her grandchildren. Maggie possessed a deeply thoughtful mind and loved meaningful conversations about philosophy, faith, and the complexities of human nature. She had an infectious wit and sense of humor, a welcoming heart, fierce independence, remarkable generosity, and a gentle spirit that made everyone feel seen and valued.

Above all else, Maggie’s greatest joy and proudest accomplishment was her family. She devoted herself wholeheartedly to her children, celebrating their successes, supporting them through life’s challenges, and rejoicing in the families they built.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of nearly 30 years, James Lee Kain, who passed away in September 2009, and by her older half-sister, Iris Grave de Peralta.

She is lovingly survived by her children: Isaac Brownman and his wife, Kristy, and their children Isaiah, Joshua, Elijah, Rebekah, and Judah; Jason Kain and his wife, Lauren, and their daughter, Lyla; and Robyn Rees and her husband, William, and their sons, Alexander and Jacob. She is also survived by her brother, Carlos Gueits Bonilla, as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends whose lives were forever enriched by her love.

Though Maggie accomplished much throughout her life, her greatest legacy is not found in her career but in the character she modeled, the faith she lived, and the family she nurtured. Her example of grace, resilience, humility, and steadfast love will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her.

Graveside funeral service will be held on Monday, August 10, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, 1380 Forrest Nelson Blvd., Port Charlotte, FL 33952.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Tidewell Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing care, comfort and compassion to patients and their families.

The family finds comfort in knowing that Maggie has found comfort in the presence of the Lord, and that the love she so freely gave will live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
