Marie S. Knasiak, LTC U.S. ARMY RET., 93, of Port Charlotte, Florida, passed away Thursday, March 21, 2013.
Born December 26, 1919 in Chicago, Illinois, Marie, an Army veteran of three wars, retired from a long Military Career in 1972. Since 1972, Marie has been a member and volunteer at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Port Charlotte, serving as a lector and providing care and assistance to parishioners in need; member of Vietnam Veterans of America (V.V.A.) Chapter 1037 in Port Charlotte, the D.A.V., Retired Officers and Reserve Officers Associations, WAC Veterans Association, Women’s Overseas League, Pregnancy Care line & Solve.
She is survived by a sister, Irene J. Surdyk; a niece, Anett (Steve) Rowe, and great nieces Katie and Kellie, all of Arizona; and her Port Charlotte family, Jerry and Myrna Baumgartner, Jonathan Sylvain, and the VVA of Chapter 1037.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. with Wake service at 7 p.m. this Monday, April 1, 2013 at Roberson Funeral Home, Port Charlotte Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2013, at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. Full Military Honors and burial to follow will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Marie’s name are suggested to the Marie Knasiak Memorial Fund, care of Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 1037 . Arrangements are by Roberson Funeral Home Port Charlotte Chapel.
