Marion Dallas South, 85, of Port Charlotte, Florida, passed peacefully from his battle with cancer at Tidewell Hospice on December 7, 2022.
Marion was born on July 14, 1937, in Campton, Kentucky to parents Price and Ida South. Dallas, as he was known to family and friends, was married to wife Barbara for 65 years and is preceded in death by his parents, and siblings Fred South, Roberta Spencer, and Janet Rutherford. He is survived by his wife and daughters, Tawnya (Robert) Matthiesen and Yolanda South; granddaughters Heather Fisher, Katelyn (Matt) Bear, and Lauren Matthiesen; great-granddaughters, Kynlee Culpepper and Paislee Culpepper; and siblings Alberta (Sonny) Day, Justine Davis, Marilyn Lacey, April Durham, Jerry (Shirley) South, Beth (Charlie) Metcalf; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Dallas retired from AK Steel Corporation of Middletown, Ohio in 1986 and moved to Port Charlotte, Florida. He began a power wash company, South’s WOW, and then worked at Charlotte County school system in landscape maintenance until he finally left the work force to care for his great-granddaughters. Dallas loved to stay busy throughout his 85 years with many activities from working on cars, bowling, playing golf, and his great love of riding his motorcycles. He enjoyed visiting family and friends and rode over 200,000 miles on his Goldwing Aspencade with friends in the local Goldwing Chapter FL2-F. His family and friends will dearly miss him.
