MARTHE “Marty” R. GARDNER, 80, of Port Charlotte, FL died Monday, May 9, 2011 at Hope Hospice, Cape Coral, FL.

She was born August 8, 1930 in Quebec, Canada and moved to Port Charlotte in 1993 from Houston, Texas. Marthe was a retired insurance claims adjuster and a member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, Port Charlotte. She was an avid bowler and bowled in various leagues in Port Charlotte.

Survived by her partner, Marvin A. Yagley of Port Charlotte; two sisters, Claire Grimard and Celine Robitaille of Canada, two step-sons, Randy Gardner of Lake Whitemore, MI and Denny Gardner of Cuyahoga Falls, OH; and a step-daughter, Kim Moore of Indianapolis, IN. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert G. Gardner who died in 1981.

While I did not know 'Marty" personally, I always looked for her and Marvin at the Mass I Ushered. I am also French ( descent ) and enjoyed the few minutes I spent talking with Marty and Marvin before Mass. She will be missed at Mass and I am sure, at the bowling alley where she and Marvin were well known. Now free of pain, I am sure Marty is telling God about her last or next cruise. The first time I met Marty was when her husband, my husband's father, passed away. That first meeting meant more to me than she ever knew and she has always held a special place in my heart. For 30 years we have written and emailed each other and fortunately my husband and I had the opportunity to visit with her and Marv last spring. I will truly miss hearing about her bowling and awesome cruises. Marv, thank you for being a part of her life. Marty was a wonderful friend to our family. She always inquired about the children and Michael and was always ready to share a laugh or talk about her Bingo escapades. Marty and I shared a love of reading and we exchanged books, thoughts and ideas about certain authors. James Patterson kept us breathless, and her newest discovery into the Amish novels we both read led us to some interesting exchanges. But above all, Marty was such a wonderful and loving person when she was in the company of Marv. The two of them together had "sparkling" eyes for one another. When you realize you have found something to complete you, you just know. And that was the way it was for Marv and Marty. Their love and companionship was really something to behold.
