MARY ANN LEIDY, 67, of Englewood, Florida died June 16, 2007
at her residence.
She was born August 9, 1939 in Elizabeth, New Jersey to Carl Frederick
and Dorothy Schnitzer. She was a graduate of Cranford High School, Cranford,
NJ, Class of 1957 and Somerset County College, North Branch, NJ. She also
attended Penn State University, Millersville State Teachers College, Franklin
and Marshall College and the Lancaster Business College. Mary Ann moved
to Florida in 1998 from Golden, Colorado where she had lived since 1976 after
moving there from Pennsylvania.
Mary Ann’s career included being a jewelry engraver, a payroll clerk, and a kindergarten teacher. For sixteen years in Colorado she was self-employed as an artist-craftsman painting, “Tourist Rocks” and religious items. She was a former member of St.
Joseph’s Catholic Church of Golden, CO where she was an active volunteer at the
church. Mary Ann was a current member of St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church in
Port Charlotte where she was a member of Just Faith, R.C.I.A. Team, the Meditation
Group, the Bible Study Group and Intercessory Prayer. For many years she served
as a sponsor-mentor in addiction recovery programs and enjoyed being of service
to many people from all walks of life. Her hobbies included reading, a love of learning,
writing, painting, gardening, canoeing, camping, back packing and hiking. She loved
nature, animals and most of all her family and friends.
Survivors include her loving husband of 35 years, John Charles Leidy of Englewood; two step sons, Robert Mason Leidy and William James Leidy; three step daughters, Elizabeth Rosalind Fournier, Barbara Marie Reeve and Bonnie Jean Meyerle;
11 step grandchildren, 1 step great grandchild; a special niece and friend, Karen
Leidy; and many dearly loved friends. Mary Ann contributed to all people, all the time, all of her life. Service was her middle name. Those who knew here were blessed, she had a full life and a long loving marriage.
